What are the dates and hours of camp?

  • Camp Dates: June 23-August 15, 2025

  • Hours: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

    Extended Care: Available upon request [early drop off and late pick up available for an additional $40 cost per session.]

What is an inclusion camp?

An inclusion camp is a summer program where children with and without disabilities learn, play, and grow together in a supportive and structured environment. Our camp is specially designed to accommodate children with autism by providing individualized support while fostering social connections. 

Is this camp specifically for kids with autism?

Legacy Summer camp is open to all children, but the Inclusion Camp is specifically designed for kids with autism and other related disabilities. We are proud to offer an inclusive environment tailored to support campers on the autism spectrum. We ensure that all activities are accessible and enjoyable for every child, regardless of their needs.

What if my child has specific sensory or behavioral needs?

We welcome all sensory profiles! We ask parents to complete a detailed intake form prior to camp. If your child uses a visual schedule, fidgets, noise-canceling headphones, or any calming strategies, we will incorporate those into their day. A behavior plan can be developed if needed.

Where is the Harlem Camp Site located?

Legacy Harlem Site is located at 127 West 127th Street between Lenox Ave and Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. The camp entrance is on 128th between Lenox and 7th Ave. Dismissal doors are on 128th Street and Lenox.

What is the cost, and are scholarships available?

Camp Fee: Free as it is paid for by health insurance; Co-pays paid to Teamwork

Program FAQ

What is the age range of the campers?

Inclusion Camp: 4-9 years old. PreK- Group: Four years old by June 23rd, 2025.

What activities are offered?

Campers enjoy a wide range of activities, such as:

Arts & crafts

Music & dance

Outdoor games

Social skills groups

Sensory play Activities are flexible and can be modified to fit individual needs and preferences.

What should my child bring?

Each child should bring:

A labeled backpack

One water bottle

Sunscreen (applied at home and in the bag for reapplication)

Lunch and snacks (nut-free)

We’ll provide all materials for activities unless otherwise noted.

Is transportation provided?
Legacy does not provide pickup or drop-off transportation services. The parent or guardian must bring/pick up the camper from/to the program building.

How many T-shirts will the campers receive?
We suggest your child wear their camper shirt daily. Each child will receive two purple shirts for use on days camp is on a trip. Shirts must be worn on a trip day by default. If you wish to purchase additional shirts a link will be available to parents on MAY 15th to order additional shirts.

What kind of staff support is available?

Our team includes:

Special education and ABA professionals

Trained Behavior Technicians

Licensed Behavior Analysts (on-site or on-call)

Camp Coordinator on site everyday

All staff receive training on neurodiversity, communication strategies, sensory support, and behavior management.

Will my child have opportunities to make friends?

Absolutely! Social interaction is a key part of our camp. We structure activities to encourage teamwork, communication, and peer bonding. Social coaches and staff gently support interactions to build confidence and comfort.

Where Do I Pick Up My Child For Summer Camp Dismissal?
Dismissal is at the back of our summer camp site-building. Parents will pick up on 128th and Lenox from the dismissal doors. All adults must show ID to pick up their child, and parents must list all who will be authorized on the ProCare app.

Dismissal begins at 5:15 pm-5:45 pm every day.

What if I need to pick up my child early from Camp?
Since we are an active camp you MUST coordinate your specified pickup time with the camp director by contacting us using the ProCare App by noon the day of. Early pick up is allowed on a case by case basis in order to retain membership and Insurance coverage.

Will I be charged if I Pick Up My Child Late?

Campers must be picked up by 5:45 pm at the latest. Late pick-up coverage fees are charged from 5:45 up until the guardian’s arrival and sign-out. The coverage fee is $3.99 per minute starting at 5:45. The guardian will be invoiced and payment is required BEFORE the child is accepted the following day. This is a strict policy and there are no exceptions

How can parents stay informed?

We host: A welcome orientation [on Zoom] In person tour of building [date TBD]

Daily communication via ProCare app with uploaded pictures and a direct line to therapists

What is the ProCare App?
ProCare is an app that ALL parents are required to download to their phones. This app allows us to send updates regarding camp, trip information, and alerts, enabling parents to communicate with staff directly make payments pull tax documents after camp. ProCare improves communication with you and our program while your child is in camp.

I Already Have The Procare App. Is There Something I Should Do To Connect?

If your child attended our after-school programs and you have the Procare app already your profile will become active once notified. You would have to switch your school to “Legacy Summer Camp” to see information about summer camp. We suggest doing this periodically to review updates and finally switch fully in mid-June. If your child participated in a summer camp program and no other program, you can leave your app as is. Please sign in using your login and password.

Can I Get a Refund if I Need to Cancel? 
Legacy does not allow refunds under any case and for any reason.

Medical Information

Does My Child Need a Physical?
Your child must have a valid physical stamp from the doctor before starting camp. Please visit our registration page for our MEDICAL FORM or submit your own.

What Is Legacy Policy on Medications?
If your child has an asthma pump, they can use it during camp, and campers should be able to administer medications themselves. During registration, the camp director will discuss any medication concerns with you on a case-by-case basis.

What Is Legacy Policy on Individual Education Plans ( IEP)?
We understand that every child is different and all families have the same common interest, for their child to have an enjoyable, safe summer. We require that if your child has an IEP, it be uploaded so our membership office and our summer staff understand how to serve your child best. IEPs allow us to see how your child may communicate with peers or need additional guidance and support during the summer.

How Does The Staff Handle Food Allergies?
Staff is trained in dealing with all allergies and special food restrictions. Should your child have an allergy or restrictions, Please list their allergies on your application and provide information on the medical form. Activities, parties, and celebrations will be tailored to include your child’s allergies in consideration. If your child has an asthma pump; they can use it during camp at any time. Campers should be able to administer medications themselves. During orientation, the camp director will discuss any medication concerns with you on a case-by-case basis.

Is Legacy a Peanut Free & Tree Nut Free Program?
All Legacy programs are Peanut & Nut Free. We ensure that peanut and tree nut products are not served to our members. Legacy has a strict policy on nut foods and will discard the food if the program is at risk. Additionally, parents should ensure that when packing snacks for their children, they should not contain nut products. Staff is trained to deal with children who have allergies and how to administer care for allergic reactions. Celebrations and parties during camp will be adjusted to serve foods that observe allergy concerns.

Is The Staff Certified in CPR & First Aid?
Legacy follows the NYC Department of Health code by ensuring that every staff member undergoes extensive readiness training before Camp begins. Staff receives CPR and First Aid training through the American Heart Association. Furthermore, the Executive Staff and Health Director additionally hold advanced certifications in CPR for adults & infants, Responding to Emergencies, & Advanced First Aid by the American Heart Association. Our Camp is always equipped with first aid kits and AED, and staff carries a First Aid Kit Emergency Bag on trips.

Is Legacy Summer Camp Licensed?
Yes, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene License licenses Legacy Harlem Summer Camp. This camp is a subsidiary of Legacy Youth Organization serving thousands of NYC students since 2002.
